Sleeping in Support of Future Dreams: our chemise especially created for women beating breast cancer

We have likely all been touched by breast cancer. Perhaps your mother, your sister, your friend. Maybe it’s you who has fought it or is fighting it now. It affects more women than any other cancer - around one in eight women will receive a breast cancer diagnosis in her lifetime. Tragically, about 11,500 women die of breast cancer each year, according to Cancer Research UK. The outlook isn’t utterly bleak though. Thanks to advances in research and medicine, mortality rates among women have decreased by 35% since the 1970s, with around 65% of women diagnosed with the disease surviving for at least 20 years.

Treatment does, however, remain traumatic and can have consequences on the body and on mental health. Women often have to undergo partial or full mastectomies - and while of course the vast majority wouldn’t even consider not having treatment, it can be distressing to lose, even partially, a part of your body that is so inherently associated with femininity, sexuality and motherhood. Follow-up hormone therapies to decrease the progesterone or oestrogen in the blood can last for many years; they often have a negative effect on mental health and can even increase the risk of cancer elsewhere in the body.

This is why awareness of the disease and the women it affects is so crucial. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and many charities, organisations, publications and individuals have come together to raise money to support women with the disease and fund vital research.

At Nui Ami, we are proud to be playing our part. Sanjit, our founder, has personal experience of breast cancer - her mother is a survivor of the disease. Inspired by her mum, Sanjit has created a special version of her bestselling chemise to raise money for Future Dreams, which supports women on their breast cancer journeys and funds research. It is even more special to us as our pattern cutter for this chemise was diagnosed with breast cancer herself two years ago - so it was a labour of love for her.

The Future Dreams Blush Chemise is especially created for women who have had surgery to treat breast cancer: the bust features a discreet pocketed inner cup that holds a breast form in place, if required. Hand stitched in Britain from fine Austrian modal silk jersey which is luxuriously soft to the touch, and has a pretty embroidered lace back. It is available in nine softly supportive cup sizes 30-40 B-GG, and the plush underband and adjustable wide straps offer additional support. We have lovingly designed this flattering, exquisitely crafted chemise to provide comfort and inspire confidence when it is needed most - but it is a slip that will also make all women look and feel their best, not just those beating cancer. 20% of the proceeds from the sale of this chemise will be donated to Future Dreams, to help them support women when they need it most.

In the latest edition of the Future Dreams magazine, the chemise is modelled by two strong and gorgeous breast cancer survivors and ambassadors for the charity, Andrea Pellagrini and Claudine Collins. Their stories are an inspiration for us all. Together, we can beat breast cancer.
